ULTRASOUND VERSUS IDENTIFICATION WIRE GUIDED EXCISION OF NON-PALPABLE BREAST LESIONS

This report describes comparison of ultrasound-guided breast excisions versus hookwire-guided. There were rewied 110 ultrasoundguided and 103 patients with hookwire-guided breast excisions. All lesions were found and excised and in all cases of malignancies, adequate margins were achieved. Ultrasound localisation of the lesions at the time of surgery allowed optimal placement of the incision, shortened the time in the operating room and it was achieved with smaller size of specimens.

Keywords: non-palpable lesion, intraoperative ultrasound, guide wire.
