Nipple-sparing mastectomy – indications and risks
Breast conversation therapy has been the main surgical treatment of breast cancer. Recently the use of mastectomy has been increasing. Mastectomy with novel surgical techniques, preservation of the skin envelope or the nipple-areolar complex is commonly performed. This types of mastectomies improved cosmetic result and reduced psychological trauma associated with breast loss. Review article concerning the oncological safety and complications of performing skin and nipple-sparing mastectomy for invasive and non invasive breast cancer.
