Cancer drug consumption 2012-2015

Increasing incidence of cancer leads to an increasing consumption of the oncology drugs. Benefits of new innovative treatments and the development of new drugs increases the cost of treatment of cancer. Modern oncological treatment brings advances in the survival of cancer patients and improvement to their quality of life. On the other hand, it puts an enormous pressure on cost of the health care payers. Reimbursement of oncology drugs is one of the most expensive items on the health care payer’s bill. In Slovakia, oncology drugs are the fastest growing and most costly group of drugs and therefore rigorous pharmaco-economic analysis in their market entry, and efficient planning of healthcare by of health care payers should be essential. It should help patients with cancer improve their survival and quality of life.
