Common mechanisms in the biology of aging and carcinogenesis: selected strategies for their targeting
Aging is considered to be an important risk factor of cancer. Cellular and subcellular mechanisms of aging are also found to occur in oncogenesis, such as genomic instability, epigenetic changes, telomere attrition, abnormal proteostasis, cellular senescence and some others. These mechanisms lead to molecular hallmarks that are either shared or divergent in aging and cancer cells. This paper briefly summarizes the current knowledge about the common biology of aging and cancer. Herein we discuss some targets for possible interventions and potential drugs in preventing of both.
