THE COLORECTAL CARCINOMA SCREENING FROM THE HEALTH ECONOMIC MODELS POINT OF VIEW

Various modalities have been proposed for population screening in colorectal cancer, including faecal occult blood testing (FOBT), digital rectal examination, barium enema, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and virtual colonoscopy. Of these, only three tests (guaiac-based FOB test, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy) have been studied sufficiently to warrant consideration also from economic and from the general conclusions point of view.
