The growth factors in oncology
Blood count disturbances (especially anemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia) related to cancer or its treatment are one of most frequent complications in oncology. Their management with growth factors is the very important part of supportive care. The following informations come mostly from Guidelines of National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), which I consider as a relevant and reliable source. NCCN is an alliance of 21 of the world‘s leading cancer centers with over 950 clinicians and researchers preparing evidence based guidelines.
Keywords: growth factors, febrile neutropenia, supportive care, toxicity of chemotherapy, G-CSF.
