First guidelines for oligometastatic non-small cell lung cancer and radiotherapy
For several decades, radiotherapy has played a significant role in the treatment of patients with localized non-small cell lung cancer (Non-small cell lung cancer - NSCLC), where it is applied in a curative sense. Recently, however, we have available more and more clinical data on the use of radiotherapy as local definitive treatment even in the stage of oligometastatic disease. Ablative doses of radiation achieved thanks to more advanced stereotactic radiation methods allow radical irradiation of multiple metastatic lesions with excellent local control and acceptable toxicity. By combining treatment modalities in a multidisciplinary approach, radiotherapy significantly advances the prognosis of patients with NSCLC with a limited number of metastases.
