Primary tumours of CNS in adults patients – neuro-oncologist´s view

While the majority of the primary tumours of the central nervous system of adults remains ultimately incurable, a variety of intermediate outcomes is nevertheless possible, depending on histological tumour type and grade. For the most of the brain tumours a common treatment strategy obtains: surgery with extension as is safely possible early in the treatment, followed by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy are the major treatment modalities, while, in spite of progress, immunotherapy, vaccination, and also targeted treatment based on molecular alteration of brain tumours, still only play a minor role, waiting on the results of clinical trials. In some patients with IDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase) mutant tumours has resulted in long-term survival.
