Position of 4/6 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors in the 1st line of treatment of metastatic breast cancer
Despite many advances in treatment metastatic breast cancer remains incurable disease. Hormone receptor-positive (HR+) HER2- negative (HER2-) carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer. According to the international guidelines hormonal therapy has been the main systemic treatment in the case of metastatic disease. Incorporation of three cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors has led to improvement of therapeutic results. Palbociclib, ribociclib and abemaciclib are agents with good tolerability and favourable toxic profile, their efficacy was demonstrated in several important clinical trials.
