Advances in the treatment of head and neck tumors

The results of the treatment of head and neck tumors, especially in advanced stages, are not encouraging, there is a medical need to improve the given situation. The goal is to optimize the treatment while ensuring sufficient efficacy and reducing toxicity. In the review article, we focused on advances in the treatment of locally advanced as well as recurrent and/or metastatic head and neck cancer from the perspective of a clinical oncologist. Immunotherapy has gradually reached all stages and types of treatment, has established itself in palliative intent and is also finding its position in curative setting as a part of neoadjuvant, concomitant or maintenance treatment. New molecules or new uses of older drugs are also beneficial in treatment.
