Cervical cancer screening realized in the Slovak Republic
Introduction: Cervical cancer is a highly preventable disease with a suitable combination of primary and secondary prevention approaches. Material and methodology: Based on the data from the account of the insured persons of all health insurance companies in the Slovak Republic, provided by NHIC, the presented work analyzes the number of screening examinations for cervical cancer in the Slovak Republic. Results: Despite established organized cervical screening in the Slovak Republic, only 39% of defined age population of women participated in this examination before the Covid-19 pandemic, during the pandemic restriction measures in 2020, this proportion dropped to 31%. Conclusion: The impact of the low participation of the female population in the cervical screening examination may be unfavorably reflected (especially) in the trends of mortality in the following period.
