Particularities of non-Hodgkin´s lymphomas in children

Prognosis of non-Hodgkin´s lymphomas in children has significantly improved in the last decades. This was achieved as the result of treatment optimalisation in multicentric prospective studies. Treatment protocols for childhood NHL were based on the protocols for acute lymphoblastic leukemias. The crucial finding was, that NHL in children is a heterogeneous group of diseases and each of them requires specific treatment strategy. This article approaches the epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical characteristics and treatment of different subgroups of children NHL. The aim in the future is more detailed risk stratification based on new methods as are gene expressing and minimal residual disease monitoring.
