SURGICAL TREATMENT OF THE OVARIAN CANCER

Ovarian cancer is a devastating disease, most of the patients die within 5 years after the initial treatment. Most patients present with advanced-stage disease and are treated with cytoreductive surgery followed by combination chemotherapy. Surgical procedure is the cornerstone in the management. The precise surgical staging and optimal debulking in the hands of experienced pelvic surgeon improve the survival. centralization and specialization of ovarian cancer surgery is the prognostic factor in the survival of these patients. This paper presents a review about the goals, possibilities and technical improvements in the surgical staging and treatment of the ovarian cancer patients.
