News in the classification of lymphoid neoplasias

Review paper presenting a brief description of essential principles of the new hematolymphoid neoplasias WHO classification in its upcoming 5th edition in the context of developmental history of malignant lymphomas (ML) and related lymphoproliferations classifications since year 2000 up to now. As the untill now unpublished final version of the classification is expected to appear at the turn of 2022/2023, the review is based on the so-called beta classification version purchaseable on-line on the web page of 5th WHO classifications editions, as well as on untill now published partial data. The review presents a description of a hierarchical classification taxonomy, using implementation of „essential“ and „desirable“ genetical and molecular-genetical analyses for the diagnostic definition of various ML and the implementation of a correct terminology and of standardized international units. Substantial parts of the review emphasise the differences between the 4th versus 5th WHO classification editions resp. with a brief summary of changes in the definition and description of most common ML types in our population shown also in the related tables.
