Late toxicity in patients with testicular germ cell tumors

Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) represent rare malignancy, even though they are the most common cancer among the men between the ages 18 to 39 years. Effectiveness of cisplatin-based chemotherapy introduced in the 1970`s provided 10-year relative survival for all patients with TGCTs approaching 95 %. Importance of the late adverse effects of antitumor treatment after chemotherapy and radiotherapy is determined by the high curability rate of TGCTs these days. Potentially late complications are: cardiovascular disease, second malignant neoplasms, Raynaud phenomenon, neurotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, gonadal dysfunction, pulmonary toxicity, damage of bone metabolism and cognitive impairment.
