Late recurrence of granulosa cell tumor of the ovary – case report
Granulosa cell tumors represent a relatively minor group of the ovarian neoplasms in contrast to more frequent epithelial tumors. Authors describe a case of a 72-year-old woman with a finding of a retroperitoneal mass on CT examination and with a left ovarian tumor in gynecological anamnesis 25 years ago. In the ovary a diagnosis of adult granulosa cell tumor was established. Histological examination of the present retroperitoneal mass confirmed the late recurrence of identical type of tumor. Granulosa cell tumors are considered as potentially malignant neoplasms. They are characterized by unpredictable biologic behavior with possible development of the late recurrences several decades after initial diagnosis. Consequently patients with this type of tumor require a long-term follow-up.
