Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the neck
Background: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, is a malignant neoplasm that arises both in soft tissue and bones. It predominantly presents in the 5th to 7th decades of life and occurs most frequently in the lower and upper extremities, retroperitoneum and abdomen. Primary undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas in head and neck region present rare, account for 1-3% of total presence of these tumors. Case report: Authors present a rare case of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma that was diagnosed in 27-year old man in the neck. Diagnostic-histopathologic criteria and management of patients with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma are discussed. Conclusion: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma can also be detected in head and neck. Radical resection of tumor and adjuvant oncologic therapy are crucial in management of these patients.
