Pancreatic and biliary cancer
Pancreatic and biliary cancer are malignancies with dismal prognosis. Surgical treatment is the only curative treatment for both groups of these malignant diseases. Adjuvant treatment plays an important role in early- stage pancreatic cancer. In biliary cancer, the role of adjuvant treatment is less clear. Treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer is tailored according to patient’s performance status and liver functions. Unsatisfactory outcomes of current standard treatment of advanced pancreatic and biliary cancer led to research of new chemotherapeutical regimens along with novel targeted- therapy agents and immunotherapy. Their efficacy is yet to be investigated in randomized controlled trials.
