Surgical options for treatment of advanced or recurrent cervical cancer

Advanced or recurrent cervical cancer represents a serious therapeutic problem. The results of treatment are often unsatisfactory despite of the use of combined therapy. In the present time, using of surgical therapy in the form of exenterative procedures of the pelvis is prefered. Despite of high morbidity and mortality, these rare procedures are part of standard oncogynecological performances. The main benefits of performing the exenterative procedures are favorable long-term results of survival. The overall 5-year survival ranges from 30 – 60 %. In some cases, these procedures have no alternative treatment.
