Microcystic serous cystadenoma of pancreas – case study of rare tumor

Purpose: Thanks to the widespread use of modern imaging techniques, cystic lesions of pancreas are becoming more frequent incidental findings. Correct diagnosis of rare neoplastic cystic lesions and their differentiation from more common non-neoplastic processes is crucial in management of these patients. Case: In this case study we present 76 year old female patient, who was, thanks to the use of imaging techniques, incidentally diagnosed with suspect neoplastic lesion of the body of the pancreas. The final diagnosis of serous cystadenoma was identified after autopsy, with the use of special histologic staining methods and immunohistochemistry methods. Conclusion: Correlation of clinical findings and histopathological examination of tissue samples is critical for the assignment of correct therapeutic measures and assessment of prognosis of these lesions, since various types of pancreatic cystic tumors show different malignant potential.
