Comprehensive management and systemic therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary liver tumor, predominantly arising in cirrhotic livers. HCC accounts for approximately 80% of primary liver cancers and is a significant oncological issue worldwide. The incidence and mortality of HCC are increasing, particularly in developing countries in Asia and Africa, due to the high prevalence of viral hepatitis B and C, alcoholic liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Multidisciplinary team play a key role in the comprehensive treatment of HCC, encompassing local interventions, surgical treatment, and systemic oncological therapy. The main objective of this article is to emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and comprehensive management that combines various treatment options to improve the prognosis and overall survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
