Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in atypical locations
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is defined as a heterogeneous group of malignancies and they can occure more often de novo but can also represent the progression or transformation of a less aggressive B-cell neoplasm, such as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma, follicular lymphoma and even lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma. DLBCL can develop at either nodal or extra-nodal sites. In the fourth edition of the WHO Classification of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tumours they have been a few subtypes of DLBCL characterized with predominant extranodal location. They are Primary mediastinal (thymic) large B cell lymphoma (PMBCL), Intravascular large B cell lymphoma (IVLBCL), Primary cutaneous DLBCL, leg type (PCLBCL, leg type), Primary DLBCL of CNS (PCNSL) and Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG). Matherial and Methods: We selectively searched the PubMed database for pertinent articles and guidelines from the years 2000 – 2014. We used the search term „Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma“.
Keywords: diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), extra-nodal sites, chemoimmunotherapy, radiotherapy, consolidation with high-dose chemotherapy supported by autologous hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HDT with ASCT).
