Surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the third most common cause of cancer death and the fifth most prevalent cancer in the world, the incidence is increasing in last decades. Surgery is the most efficient treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. In patients with normal liver function is surgical resection the only curative treatment. For patients with liver failure, fulfiling Milan's criteria, liver transplantation is recommended. Surgical resection and ablative techniques could be used as bridge therapy to transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma.
