Spatial transcriptomics in oncology diagnostics
Spatial transcriptomics (ST) is a revolutionary technology that integrates gene expression analysis at the mRNA level with its precise spatial localization within tissues. Unlike conventional sequencing methods, which lack spatial resolution, ST provides a more comprehensive understanding of tissue architecture and organization of cells. This approach is becoming increasingly studied in oncology research, where it enables the identification of expression profiles of cellular populations within the tumor microenvironment, characterizes tumor heterogeneity, and maps intercellular interactions. By offering spatially resolved molecular insights, ST holds significant potential for discovering novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers, guiding treatment selection, and predicting tumor resistance to therapy.
