Therapy of basal cell carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is currently the most common malignancy in the human population. It is an epithelial tumor of the skin with an unusually large clinical and histopathological diversity. Up to 85 % of BCCs occur in the sun-exposed head and neck region. The recent development of more effective topical and nonsurgical therapies has increased the treatment options for many low-risk lesions, although surgery and radiotherapy remain the treatments of choice for the majority of high-risk lesions. Some techniques do not allow histological confirmation of tumour clearence. These techniques are generally used to treat low-risk tumours.
