Sulfones in dermatology
Sulfones are originally used for they antimicrobial and antiprotozoal activities to treat disorders caused by pathogens. Furthermore, they show alternative anti-inflammatory efficacy similar to those of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Dapsone belongs to the group of synthetic sulfones. It has corticosteroid sparing effect which is used to treat various chronic disorders. Its main indication is to treat lepra and dermatitis herpetiformis. Adverse effects may involve blood creating and increase methemoglobinemia, induce gastrointestinal dysfunction including nausea and vomiting and skin allergic reactions of various characteristics.
