Reconstruction of lower eyelide defects after surgery removal procedure for basal cell carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common non-melanocytic skin malignancy of eyelid. The incidence in our population is constantly growing. The main aim of treatment is to remove the whole tumor, reconstruction methods depend of the size, the location and histological character of the tumor. Depending on the involvement of the horizontal eyelid margin, several techniques have been used for the reconstruction of lower eyelid defects. The article describes reconstructions of the lower eyelid defects using Tenzel semicircular rotation flap, Mustarde cheek flap and Hughes tarsoconjunctival advancement flap and their modifications. The best technique for reconstructing lower eyelid defects following malignant tumor removal procedure is the technique that restore normal anatomy and function with the best possible cosmetic outcome.
