Obesity as a comorbidity of some dermatoses
The prevalence of obesity has increased in recent years and has reached epidemic proportions. It has almost tripled since 1975. In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults (39%) aged 18 years and more were overweight worldwide. Of these, more than 650 million (13%) were obese. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents aged 5-19 has also increased dramatically, from 4% in 1975 to over 18% in 2016. The association of obesity with several dermatoses is indisputable. Recently, it is best known and repeatedly described as a comorbidity in psoriasis, but there are others. Revealing these interrelationships in a brief overview is interesting not only clinically and macroscopically, but also at the cellular or molecular level. The title of the article could therefore sometimes sound the opposite, dermatoses as comorbidities of obesity.
