Unconventional procedures in supportive treatment of onychomycosis
The treatment of fungal nail diseases is very lengthy and in many cases fails due to incorrect mycological analysis which failed to take into account previous treatments before the collection of biological sample. The complexity of supportive decontamination measures, poor pre-treatment preparation process (before the application of medications or topical medication) and patient education must be targeted by specialist podiatry workplaces where there is enough time for these procedures and space for treatment options (including supportive therapies). Interdisciplinary collaboration between mycology laboratory, podiatrist and dermatologist has proven to be a step in the right direction towards increasing the effectiveness of onychomycosis treatment.
