Honey and wound healing
Honey represents a useful possibility of wound treatment. Its mode of action is probably of complex nature, it has an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. The whole spectrum of action is not known at present, furthermore its properties depend upon geographic factors. Several efficient honey preparations are available and represent an alternative choice of treatment in problematic wounds. Research has shown, that honey is applicable in small acute wounds as well as in large chronic wounds. It is useful in diabetic foot syndrome too. Use of honey requires some specific knowledge about its qualities and composition.
