Clinical picture of acne

Acne is affecting the pilosebaceous units particularly on the face, back and chest, occasionally even in sacral areas. The lesions of acne are polymorphic. The primary lesion is comedo – microcomedo, whitehead or blackhead. The other lesions are papules, pustules, nodules, cysts. Depending on the type and number of the lesions there are more clinical forms of acne. The clinical variants of acne include also the rarer forms of acne such as acne conglobata or acne fulminans. The scarring in acne depends upon individual’s response to the injury of the skin. There are two types of scars: with increased tissue formation or with loss of tissue. Acne constitutes a spectrum of clinical forms not just in its severity but also in the type of present lesions.
