Hidradenitis suppurativa – therapeutic challenge for a dermatologist

Hidradenitis suppurativa is chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting hair follicles, with profoundly negative impact on patient quality of life. Our paper presents specific issues which are essential to discuss before medical treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa as evaluation of severity of the disease, family history, comorbidity and lifestyle screening, diagnostic testing and pain management. Clinical management of hidradenitis suppurativa is challenging and consists of medical, adjuvant and surgical approaches, which must often be combined for the best outcomes.
