The etiopathogenesis of acne

Acne is one of the most common chronic diseases of the skin affecting about 85 % of individuals aged 11 – 30. The etiopathogenesis of acne is multifactorial. The main factors involved in the etiopathogenesis of acne are hyperkeratinization of the acroinfundibulum and obstruction of the pilosebaceous unit, enhanced sebaceous gland activity and hyperseborrhea, bacterial hypercolonization of the follicles, inflammatory processes in the follicles and the surrounding areas and immunological reactions. Exact etiopathogenesis and optimal management are still not fully understood and are not completely cleared yet.
