Hair diseases I.
Human scalp contains about 100 000 – 150 000 hair follicles. Hairs grow in a cyclic fashion: growth – anagen, regression – katagen and resting – telogen. Alopecias can be divided in two groups – non-scaring and scaring alopecias. Non-scaring alopecias – anagen effluvium, telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia. Anagen effluvium is typical with acute shedding of hair after acute cause (chemotherapy, intoxication). Telogen effluvium is a form of hair loss of normal telogen hairs in response to change in health status. Androgenetic alopecia is an androgen-dependent hereditary disorder. Topical therapy with minoxidil, aminexil or systemic therapy with antiandrogens and finasterid can be useful in treatment of these conditions.
