Acne vulgaris – clinical view and therapeutic options
Acne vulgaris is a polymorphic inflammatory disease of pilosebaceous unit and belongs to the most frequent skin diseases affecting face, chest and arms. The main cause of acne is the inflammation of pilosebaceous unit, starting with sebaceous gland obturation that continues into the formation of non-inflammatory and inflammatory lesions. The main treatment goals are as follows: healing of the present acne manifestation, prevention of formation of scars and hyperpigmentations and suppression of new disease manifestation. Long persisting acne is a frequent cause of psychic trauma and social isolation. Therefore, appropriate treatment combination that acts simultaneously against several pathogenetic factors is essential.
