Catheter high-frequency jet ventilation and its use in ENT surgery

The author analyzes the possibilities of use catheter high-frequency jet ventilation (C-VFDV) in the field of laryngeal surgery. The first part explains the basic concept and technology of C-VFDV and the basic principles of gas exchange during small breath volumes application. The author compares the advantages and disadvantages of C-VFDV as well as the risks of application and prevention of complications. It analyzes possibilities of the airways access (translaryngeal, transtracheal). Catheter high-frequency jet ventilation of the lungs can be used during a number of planned and urgent, diagnostic and elective procedures. The airway stenosis caused by various pathological processes can be located in the supraglotic, laryngeal or subglotic area.
