Ivermectin – a case report of overdose in self-medication

The continuing difficult situation of the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the COVID-19 disease caused by it places an excessive burden on a large number of health professionals. In a permanent atmosphere of health hazard, it is no surprise that people are also reaching for alternative solutions, such as self-medication based on information from the Internet. We present in our knowledge the first documented case in Slovakia of overdose with Ivermectin in an effort to cure COVID-19. Eight days after the disease was confirmed by testing, a 44-year-old woman took 150 mg of ivermectin (a veterinary medicinal product). Symptoms of central nervous and gastrointestinal system have been reported. After seven days of hospitalization, she could be released to outpatient care in an improved and stabilized condition.
