Alexis Frank Hartmann (1898-1964) was an American physician who connected pediatrics with clinical biochemistry. Hartmann has been researching the treatment of acidosis caused by hypovolemia, diabetes, and dehydrated infections in children. His best-known achievement is electrolyte solution and a strategy for administering bulk intravenous therapy to correct ionic and acid-base imbalance in infants. Its solution is generally known as Ringer‘s lactate solution or Hartmann‘s solution. It was formed in 1932 from the original Ringer‘s solution by the addition of sodium lactate. Hartmann and colleagues have developed a technique for measuring the blood sugar of pediatric patients
