DRY EYE

The surface of the eye is covered with lacrimal film. It consist of mucinoid, aques and lipid layer. Disorders any layer of lacrimal film leads to dry eye disease. It is a frequent disease of the eye and lacrimal production is affected by many external and internal factors. The lacrimal film disorders may be diagnosed by numerous tests ( Schirmer test, staining of the surface of the eye, lid parallel conjuctival folds, break – up time ). In the treatment of dry eye the artificial lacrimation replacement is most frequently used, less frequent methods involve surgical treatment and anti – inflammatory treatment or immunesuppression with cyclosporin A and corticosteroids.
