PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PRIMARY OSTEOPOROSIS IN GENERAL PRACTICE

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized with dysbalance of bone turnover that resulting in increased bone resorption over bone formation. Due to these changes the outcome is loss of bone tissue with decreased bone stiffness and increased risk of fractures. The incidence of primary osteoporosis is much higher compared to secondary osteoporosis, which starts as consequence of other basic disease or external influence. The prevention and therapy of patients at risk at all health care levels - general practitioners and also with cooperation with specialists in osteology - is very important. In this paper we would like to point out the possibilities to influence the skeletal status of patients in the clinic of GP. Due to the fact, that detailed analysis of antiosteoportic therapy would overgrow extent of this work, we would address this issue by another occasion.
