DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE 2 TREATMENT – ORAL ANTIDIABETIC AGENTS
Oral antidiabetic agents are preparations used in type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment. There is important to manage both metabolic disorders in diabetic patients – impaired insulin sensitivity and dysfunction in insulin secretion as well. Basic tools in optimal metabolic control are preparations that influence mainly fasting glycemia (metformin, thiazolidindions) and mainly postprandial glycemia (acarbose, insulin secretagogues, incretin mimetics). Incretin mimetics work in more levels of glucose metabolism regulations and form a new quality in antidiabetic treatment.
