BACTERIAL IMMUNOMODULATORS – SUPPORT OF NATURAL BODY DEFENCE MECHANISMS

Of Defensiveness of macro-organisms is a universal homeostatic system. Its malfunction or failure may have different clinical consequences – most of all expressed as infectious complications, the respiratory system the most. Particular group of patients exists in which every infection represents more or less deterioration of prognosis (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, interstitial lung diseases, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectases). Through understanding of the role of microorganisms in the development of human immune system ant those essential role in non-adaptive immunity we point out utilisation of bacterial immunomodulators in the prevention of infectious exacerbations of these diseases. Rational and proper use of immunotherapy coming out from evidence-based medicine can significantly improve prognosis of patients with these chronic lifelong diseases.
